The 40.61 million transactions per second reported in Sui’s public experiment measured the speed inside “tunnels”: transactions were processed in off-chain channels, and the results were only settled back on the Sui mainnet when the tunnels were closed. This is not the Sui mainnet’s TPS.

The experiment opened more than 10,000 tunnels on-chain within seconds to simulate high-frequency trading by AI agents. This throughput comes mainly from the “off-chain execution, on-chain settlement” architecture, so it should not be read as a direct measure of mainnet performance.
