FOMC & CRYPTO — Why Does It Matter?

The crypto market is highly sensitive to major US monetary-policy decisions. One of the most important events traders watch is the FOMC meeting.

But why does FOMC matter to Bitcoin and crypto?

FOMC stands for the Federal Open Market Committee, the body within the US Federal Reserve that makes key decisions about monetary policy, including the federal funds rate.

The connection is simple:

Interest Rates → Liquidity → Risk Appetite → Crypto

When the Fed takes a more dovish approach, such as cutting rates or signaling easier monetary policy, financial conditions can become more supportive of risk assets.

When the Fed takes a more hawkish approach, such as keeping rates higher for longer or signaling tighter policy, risk appetite can weaken and crypto can come under pressure.

But there is one important lesson every trader should understand:

FOMC does NOT guarantee a pump or dump.

The market often moves before the announcement because traders position themselves based on expectations.

Then the actual announcement can produce:

Initial Pump → Reversal

or

Initial Dump → Recovery

This is why trading major news purely on prediction can be dangerous.

Instead of asking:

“Will Bitcoin go up or down?”

A better question is:

“How is the market reacting to the news?”

Watch the price action, support and resistance, volume, and candle confirmation.

If volatility increases, protecting capital becomes more important than chasing a quick move.

Trade the reaction. Don't trade the emotion.
