đ¨ Cardano Just Made Regulated Tokens Enforce Their Own Rules
Cardano has quietly crossed into a new category: tokens that can carry compliance rules on-chain.
LIVE / CONFIRMED: On October 7, at TOKEN2049, the Cardano Foundation announced that CIP-0113 is live on Cardano mainnet after multiple independent security audits.
So what actually changed?
CIP-0113 lets issuers of stablecoins, tokenized funds, bonds, and other regulated assets build rules directly into the token. These can include KYC checks, sanctions screening, transfer restrictions, freezes, and seizures.
But hereâs the important part: this is for opted-in regulated tokens. It does not make ADA itself freezeable, and it does not impose these controls on normal ADA holders.
Thereâs one detail worth watching: CMTA recognized Cardanoâs Programmable Asset Tokens as a smart-contract equivalent to its CMTAT framework for certification purposes. That is a meaningful signal for tokenized finance, though it is not the same as a major issuer already launching on Cardano.
That doesnât mean Cardano has âwonâ institutional finance. It means the network now has a mainnet-ready compliance layerâand the next proof point is whether real regulated issuers adopt it.
