Yesterday, October 7, during a live stress test at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, Sui took its performance figures to an astonishing level: Sui Tunnels peaked at 40,614,180 TPS.
That’s more than 40.6 million interactions per second. What does that mean? It’s over six times the roughly 6.08 million TPS record set in July!
But there’s one important detail to keep in mind: this doesn’t mean the Sui mainnet itself is directly processing 40.6 million transactions per second. A huge number of operations happen off-chain in Tunnels, with the results settled on the Sui mainnet when channels are opened and closed.
In fact, Sui’s design is really aimed at AI agents. In the future, machines may generate massive volumes of payments and interactions with one another every second. If every single one had to go directly on-chain, the cost and speed would be unsustainable.
