Is Ripple Coming for Wall Street’s Business? This Time, the Focus Is Institutional Back-Office Services
👀 Ripple has sparked a new discussion on X: Watcher.Guru cited a Wall Street Journal report saying Ripple is becoming an important competitor. That claim grabs attention, but what business is it actually competing for?
📌 I checked Ripple Prime’s official product page. It offers prime brokerage, clearing, and financing services for institutions, covering both digital assets and traditional financial markets. It’s not an exchange for retail traders or a bank; institutions can use it to handle related back-office services after executing trades elsewhere.
Put simply, it aims to connect the funding and business processes behind institutional trading. Its selling point is providing services across multiple markets in one place; the actual costs still depend on the terms.
🧠 What I find worth watching is the shift in competitive positioning: crypto companies are starting to compete for traditional institutions’ core service needs, rather than simply waiting for banks to enter crypto. That doesn’t mean banks have been replaced. “Important competitor” is the report’s assessment, not a published market-share ranking.
For XRP holders, it’s also important to distinguish the company’s business progress from the token’s value. Whether business growth can translate into sustained demand for the token requires supporting data on actual usage and operations; the two can’t be equated directly.
💬 Are you more optimistic about crypto companies moving into Wall Street, or traditional banks building their own on-chain businesses? I’d rather see real business data.
