• Stargate, a cross-chain liquidity and swap protocol built on LayerZero

  • USDT0, Tether's omnichain USDT, which uses LayerZero's OFT standard

  • Hundreds of dApps and tokens across DeFi, gaming and stablecoins

  • Backers include a16z, Sequoia and Samsung Next

Which layer is it?

LayerZero is not a normal L1 or L2. It works as an interoperability layer that sits above and between chains, connecting them. LayerZero Labs has also announced its own network, Zero, aimed at institutions.

Outlook to 2030

If multichain keeps growing, cross-chain messaging could become basic internet plumbing for crypto. Tokenized assets, stablecoins and institutional finance all need to move between chains. LayerZero's bet is to be that standard. Risks remain: strong rivals (Wormhole, Chainlink CCIP, Axelar), token unlocks, and market cycles.
