13 years ago, the Winklevoss brothers tried to launch one of the first spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S.

Now they’re back with another bet.
$ZEC

Winklevoss Asset Services filed an application yesterday to create a spot Zcash ETF.

Name: Winklevoss Zcash ETF
Proposed ticker: WINK
Fee: 0.25% per year
Custodian: Gemini

And there’s one detail that caught a lot of attention:
Winklevoss Capital indicated interest in buying up to US$100 million worth of shares in the fund. But it’s important to be careful here.
This does NOT mean that US$100 million will flow into ZEC right away.

The intention is non-binding, and there’s another even more important distinction: the ETF has NOT been approved. An application was filed. That’s all. Even so, a narrative is emerging that’s becoming hard to ignore.

Zcash already has a Grayscale spot ETF in the U.S. Bitwise has also filed an application. Now Winklevoss is entering the race.
At the same time, the network is testing NU7, which aims to reduce the time between blocks from 75 to 25 seconds. So ZEC is starting to bring together privacy, improving infrastructure, and institutional access.

But after the huge gains ZEC has already made this year, expectations have become part of the risk. A good narrative doesn’t mean a good entry price.

Could privacy become a significant institutional category…
or are the ETFs arriving after much of the narrative has already been priced in?
