BTC's funding rate for this period is -0.00172%, and ETH's is -0.00422%.
Let me be direct—first, remember the rule: when the rate is positive, longs pay shorts, which means longs are crowded; when it's negative, it's the other way around, and shorts are paying.
The way I see it, funding rates measure who is bearing the cost of holding a position, not which way the market will move next. When funding on one side reaches an extreme and the price starts moving in the opposite direction, that's when you’re most likely to see a sharp wick. The paying side can no longer bear the cost, and once stop-losses start triggering, it becomes a chain reaction.
So there's just one rule for reading funding rates: an extreme alone isn't a signal; an extreme combined with price moving the other way is cause for caution. For example, GRIFFAIN's 0.016551 level has been tested 7 times over the past 6 days. The lower wicks on the candles that touched this level averaged 29% of the candle's total length, but volume was only 48% of the average across the most recent 60 candles. When funding is skewed at a level like this, think about when the paying side might exit, rather than trying to guess the direction.
