Why can’t you sleep once you start trading? It’s not a technical problem at all.

Many people suffer from insomnia and anxiety when trading. The real issue isn’t a lack of technical skill—it’s having no trading rules and letting their mindset spiral out of control.

Once they’re in a position, they’re on edge. If the price rises a little, they fear a pullback; if it falls a little, they fear being stuck in a losing trade. They keep checking the charts late into the night, tossing and turning. In the end, they get no sleep and can’t hold onto their trades. The more they trade, the more emotionally drained they become.

There are only two real root causes: positions that are too large and risks they don’t understand.
If even a small price move affects your emotions, your position size has already exceeded what you can handle. Try reducing it until you can calmly accept a loss. Your mindset will naturally become more relaxed and stable.

Next, always set a stop-loss before entering a trade.
All the anxiety in trading comes from uncertainty. Set your maximum loss in advance and know what the worst-case scenario is. No matter how much the market fluctuates, you’ll know where you stand.

Finally, remember: don’t try to capture the entire move.
Don’t obsess over buying at the very bottom or selling at the very top. When you reach your target, take profit decisively. If you always try to capture the entire move, you’ll most likely end up with nothing.

Trading is just one part of life, not all of it.
Use smaller positions, set stricter stop-losses, and keep your ambitions in check. Only by staying calm can you trade successfully over the long term.
