U.S. stocks: Check levels before direction

There’s no new narrative in U.S. stocks today, just price moves.

Let’s look at the numbers first, then talk about what they mean.

U.S. Dollar Index 102.26 (5-day +0.32%)
Crude oil 88.32 (5-day -3.06%, Yahoo)
S&P 7,802 (5-day +1.96%, Yahoo)

My take: The dollar is relatively strong at +0.32% over 5 days, in line with BTC at -2.72%. Don’t talk about a reversal until the dollar turns back down.

Crypto comparison: BTC 83220 (24h -2.72%), ETH 2559 (-5.11%). ETH at -5.11% over 24h is weaker than BTC at -2.72%; the exchange rate is 0.03075. Capital is concentrating in BTC, so I’d stay on the sidelines with altcoins for now.

What to watch next: In crypto, I’m watching just one thing: can BTC close above its 24h high of 85814? If it can’t, talk of following the rally is just bluster.

My position: I’m not trying to catch the first knife. Until the drop leads to a decline in open interest, buying on the way down is catching a falling knife.
