【$SAND : Hourly trading volume surges, but negative funding and rising open interest still don’t point to a clear direction】

For now, treat this as a short-term move and don’t chase the sharp spike. The full Binance USDT-margined perpetuals scan at 00:11:15 Beijing time covered 523/523 active contracts, with SAND ranking first on a 24-hour gain of +31.324%. The single-asset snapshot at 00:11:31 showed 0.08669 USDT and a rolling gain of +31.628%. The two readings were taken about 16 seconds apart and use different metrics, so they shouldn’t be combined to calculate a short-term gain.

The increase was concentrated in the completed 23:00–00:00 hour: the price opened at 0.07386 and closed at 0.08425, up about 14.1%, with approximately $72.42 million in USDT-denominated trading volume. The previous hour’s volume was about $24.95 million, making this hour’s roughly 2.90 times higher. Over the full 20:00–00:00 four-hour period, the price rose about 19.4%, with approximately $117.2 million in volume. This shows that both price movement and turnover accelerated during this period, but trading volume reflects matched trades on both sides and is not equivalent to net buying. The 00:00–01:00 hour has not yet closed, so intrahour price action cannot confirm that the move will continue.

Derivatives activity also expanded: Binance’s hourly open-interest sample rose from 329.4 million tokens at 23:00 to 367.1 million at 00:00, up about 11.4%. The funding rate settled at -0.1149% at the same time. Open interest does not distinguish between longs and shorts, while a negative funding rate only suggests weaker perpetual pricing or heavier hedging demand; neither is enough to conclude that a short squeeze is underway. The account long/short ratio fell from 1.3403 to 1.1622. It remains slightly tilted toward longs but is moving closer to balance.

The verifiable background event took place earlier: Coinone and Bithumb both lifted their SAND trading warnings at 16:00 Korea time on October 2, stating that the reasons for the designation had been resolved. This was about five days before the current surge and cannot be directly cited as the cause of the 23:00 breakout. I found no new project announcement that would explain this hourly spike. Next, watch whether the completed 00:00–01:00 hour holds above 0.08425 and retests the 0.08809 high. A close back below 0.08425 would mean the breakout has not yet been confirmed on a closing basis. These two prices are reference points to watch, not automatic support or resistance levels. #SAND
