At TOKEN2049 in Singapore, BitMine chairman Tom Lee outlined the condition for stopping purchases: reaching 5% of ETH’s circulating supply. It currently holds 6,016,414 ETH, or about 4.9%, leaving roughly 100,000 ETH to go.
It added about $41 million worth last week. At that pace, it will take another six to seven weeks to reach 5%.
The other side of this demand is on the books: according to DropsTab, its ETH holdings are down about $4.5 billion, while ETH has fallen another roughly 5% in the past 24 hours.
If BitMine stops before reaching 5%, or keeps buying after it gets there, this assessment no longer holds.
