Crypto | Evening Recap | October 7

A big down day. The hardest day isn’t the one when you lose money—it’s watching your account shrink little by little when you know you haven’t done anything wrong.

First, the closing numbers: $BTC is now at 83,492, down 3.06% over the past 24 hours. After surging to 86,664 in the morning, it steadily drifted lower, bottoming at 83,310. $ETH fared even worse, falling 5.42% to close at 2,565 after dropping 160 bucks straight from 2,725. Most altcoins were down around 3%. $SOL couldn’t hold up either, closing at 116, down 3.18%. It’s the familiar script of weekend effects combined with tightening external liquidity.

A quick look at market structure. Today’s slow bleed was pretty nasty—it wasn’t a waterfall, but more like boiling a frog slowly. From 86,664, it slid lower, with a wick down and recovery every hour, giving the impression that it couldn’t fall any further, only to keep grinding lower. This is one of the most classic distribution patterns in a bear market: sideways action at the highs and a false breakout, followed by a swift reversal that stops out late longs, then a slow bleed that shakes out weak hands. Short-term support for $BTC is around 83,300. It briefly dipped below that level this morning before recovering, showing that buyers are still putting up a fight here, though their resolve is clearly weaker than before. The next level to watch is the high-volume zone around 82,000–82,500, where real buyers may step in. Resistance overhead has moved down to 85,000. If it bounces there, I’d reduce my position rather than chase.

A lesson learned. Around midday, when I saw $ETH trading sideways around 2,620, I couldn’t resist opening a long, thinking it had fallen enough to bounce. I was proven wrong—it plunged straight to my 2,580 stop. I only lost a few dozen bucks, but this kind of “I think it’s bottomed” intuition is one of the biggest sources of losses in a bear market. Looking back, the biggest issue was this: don’t catch falling knives in a downtrend. It’s the most basic rule, yet every time I think this time it really is the bottom, the market teaches me a lesson. I admit I was wrong—today’s trade was a mistake. Tomorrow, I’ll keep my hands off.

How the system signals performed. ZRO (75 points) and API3 (75 points) remain on the slow-grind watchlist. Assets that move independently of the broader market are the ones truly worth watching: when the market is weak, they stay relatively steady, suggesting there’s real buying demand behind them. Today’s stealth signal, FLOCK, saw its trading volume jump 38.8 times. This kind of unusual activity deserves continued monitoring, but don’t take a heavy position before the direction is confirmed. On the AI theme front, ANTHROPIC remains on the list, while OPENAI fell with the market. But there’s no need to worry too much about short-term volatility in these long-term narrative plays.

As for altcoins, it’s perfectly normal for AI-related and low-liquidity altcoins to fall more than 20% during a sell-off like today’s. CAP (-24%), MINA (-24%), and TWST (-23%) are all showing signs of liquidity drying up. Meanwhile, GTC (+11%) and ORCA (+8%), which have real-world use cases, were among the gainers—suggesting capital is gravitating toward projects with a compelling narrative. I wouldn’t even look at something like AKE, which has gained 561% in a week. It’s bound to turn into a meat grinder.

In a nutshell: a slow bleed is the most dangerous kind of decline. Not making a mistake by chasing the price was today’s biggest win. I don’t expect any major moves before the U.S. market opens tonight, so I’ll keep my hands off and wait for confirmation.
