According to Jin10, Qatar is gathering a group of empty liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers in the Persian Gulf, suggesting the major global LNG exporter may be preparing to increase exports through the Strait of Hormuz. Based on foreign media analysis of satellite images and ship-tracking data, at least 12 empty LNG tankers owned or chartered by QatarEnergy are waiting in waters near Qatar. The vessels can carry about 1.1 million tons of LNG in total, equal to about 2% of the global LNG tanker fleet's total capacity. Even if the ships are loaded, it is not certain they will ultimately pass through the Strait of Hormuz, especially as attacks on vessels by Iran have intensified recently. The Athens News Agency, citing Greece's shipping department on Tuesday, reported that an LNG tanker owned by a Greek shipowner was attacked while sailing near the Strait of Hormuz, but continued on its voyage afterward.
