Widening the lanes isn’t about painting the road wider; it’s about testing the brakes first.

Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade is following the same order: the Sepolia testnet is set to raise the amount of computation each block can handle to 200 million gas, while one of the major validator clients had only just finished updating its software a few hours before the test.

According to the official announcement, Sepolia is one of the last major dress rehearsals before Glamsterdam activates on mainnet. The question is: will an update made in the final few hours be enough to get through the entire test?

The client is racing to keep up with the fork schedule. The scaling target has been set for a while; whether it can be met on time depends first on the client side.

Next, watch to see whether Sepolia can consistently produce blocks with 200 million gas, and whether any clients are still scrambling to finish work before mainnet activation.
