The value of U.S. Treasuries on Avalanche has surpassed $500 million—RWA is entering the stage where the real numbers matter
A noteworthy figure has recently emerged on Avalanche.
The value of tokenized U.S. Treasuries on-chain has reached approximately $545 million, up 14% quarter over quarter and fourfold year over year.
Meanwhile, AVAX briefly approached $12, gaining more than 3% in 24 hours.
Many people have grown somewhat numb to the term “RWA.”
In the past, almost every public blockchain talked about bringing real-world assets on-chain, but relatively few projects have managed to build up significant scale.
U.S. Treasuries were among the first assets to gain traction in RWA because they offer clear cash flows and broad market acceptance.
Investors can earn relatively stable returns through on-chain products while benefiting from blockchain’s composability and round-the-clock settlement.
For public blockchains, the significance of these assets goes beyond simply increasing the amount of value locked.
If substantial funds remain on-chain and continue to be used for lending, trading, and liquidity management, the network can benefit from more sustained demand.
But there is one key question:
Growth in RWA volume does not mean the AVAX token will necessarily rise in tandem.
Issuers, issuance structures, custody arrangements, redemption rules, and compliance requirements can all affect whether the value ultimately flows through to the blockchain and its token.
So you can’t assess this sector by looking at the amount of value locked alone.
You also need to see whether on-chain trading volume is growing, whether the number of real users is increasing, and whether other protocols are using these assets.
If assets are merely issued on-chain without subsequent liquidity or applications, it looks more like a one-off deployment.
Only when funds can keep flowing on-chain can an RWA ecosystem truly come to life.
Whether AVAX can break above $12 needs to be confirmed by both its price and on-chain data.
RWA gives it a new story to tell.
But whether that story can translate into long-term value will depend on its ability to generate sustained revenue.
