Wealth and money are two different things: true wealth is the luxury cars you didn’t buy, the diamonds you never owned, the expensive watches you never wore, the clothes you never bought (unnecessary luxuries), and the choice to forgo an upgrade to first class. Being rich is easy to spot—driving a luxury car, living in a mansion (perhaps bought with a mortgage)—but true wealth is represented by financial assets that haven’t been converted into material possessions. It’s hidden in bank accounts, in investment portfolios, in places you can’t see.
