$ADA surged onto the trending list: ADA rose about 10% over the trading days from October 3 to 5, climbed above $0.27, and recorded its highest daily close since early April — while $BTC was still grinding back and forth between $84,000 and $87,000. ADA genuinely outperformed the broader market this time.

I’m singling it out because it reflects a sector-wide trend: a catch-up rally among high-beta legacy coins. There were three catalysts: the RealFi protocol went live on mainnet on October 1, focusing on real-world asset tokenization and connecting stablecoins to institutional credit, with advertised annualized yields of up to 9%; the founder hinted at the Dijkstra / Leios upgrades; and the 50-day moving average crossed above the 200-day moving average, forming a golden cross.

But my view is that this looks more like capital rotation and a narrative-driven catch-up rally than a fundamental reversal. The on-chain data tells the story: Cardano’s daily DEX volume was still about $11.74 million on October 1, but by October 5 it had fallen to around $5.72 million — halved in just a few days. Total DeFi value locked remains far below its December 2024 peak. Prices are rising while on-chain activity is shrinking — a classic case of “a new story driving sentiment,” rather than “usage driving demand.” Add to that the fact that ADA is still down about 68% over the past 12 months, and has nearly doubled from its late-June low of less than $0.14: fundamentally, this is a recovery rally after a deep drawdown.

The spillover effect on the sector works like this: as long as BTC holds near its highs, capital instinctively looks for legacy chains that have “fallen far enough and have a fresh narrative.” ADA was the first to get the spotlight this time. These rotations happen fast, but whether they can continue depends on a second wave of catalysts. $0.28 is the first major resistance.

What do you think: is this a valuation recovery for legacy chains, or another rotation that will fizzle out in a few days? If you were going to take part, would you wait for a pullback to $0.25, or chase a breakout?
