$CIEN $NOK The same market, two flows of capital.

At 2 a.m. Beijing time tonight, the Fed will release the minutes of its September meeting. First, some context: the prices paid component of the September ISM Services Index surged to 74, its highest level since July 2022; the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield is hovering around 5.3%; spot Bitcoin ETFs saw nearly $90 million in net outflows over five days, while Ethereum ETFs have recorded five consecutive days of outflows. Sticky services inflation is constraining room for rate cuts, leaving Bitcoin on standby around $85,000.

But another flow of capital is heading toward a sector where orders are visible: the AI networking equipment supply chain. At its investor day, Marvell forecast that the AI interconnect market would reach around $65 billion by 2030. Nokia’s CEO said data centers could be built twice as fast if not for bottlenecks in memory and power—easing concerns about an “AI overbuild.”

To be clear about the instrument: CIEN on Binance is a USDT-margined perpetual contract tracking the U.S.-listed stock around the clock; it is not a purchase or sale of Ciena shares themselves. The stock surged about 14% overnight for specific reasons: fiscal third-quarter revenue was $1.67 billion, up 37% year over year; backlog grew by another $800 million quarter over quarter to $8.5 billion; and the company is targeting annual revenue growth of around 30% in FY2029. Several institutions subsequently raised their ratings.

There’s another side to the story: the valuation is already around 90 times earnings, the upper end of gross margin guidance is 46%, and management itself says component supply constraints could persist through 2028. Expectations are running high, and tonight’s wording in the minutes, along with major customers’ capital spending, could both move the needle. With contracts this volatile, keep positions small. Rather than watching every price tick, pay attention to how quickly orders convert into revenue.
