Sierra and Meta have launched the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard intended to standardize how personal AI agents interact with businesses. The founding partners also include Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe, and Walmart.

The protocol uses the OAuth standard for authentication, allowing users to grant AI agents permission to read or write data in their accounts. Businesses can decide for themselves which features to make available to these agents.

Businesses can also monitor AI agent activity through the website, API, or their own agent. According to Sierra’s official blog, the v0.1 specification is expected to be released by the end of October.
