Maritime traffic through the Strait of Magellan rose more than 70% in both August and September from a year earlier as ships rerouted from the drought-hit Panama Canal, according to Bloomberg, citing Chilean Navy data requested by Bloomberg.

The figures show vessels taking a longer route around South America as canal conditions constrained passage.
