Ethereum (ETH): EEZ tests atomic transaction between L1 and L2

The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) conducted a test of an atomic transaction between the Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 (L2) solution.

In the test, a cross-network call transferred 0.001 ETH and updated the state of a rollup. In an atomic transaction, related actions must either all be completed together or be rolled back if any step fails.

The proposal aims to address one of the current challenges facing the Ethereum ecosystem: the fragmentation of liquidity and applications across different L2s. The idea is to enable more seamless interaction between the mainnet and rollups, reducing reliance on intermediary solutions such as bridges.

The test is still at the development stage, but it stands out as a potential sign of how the relationship between L1 and L2 could evolve: toward greater interoperability and a less fragmented experience for users and applications.

In your view, could more direct integration between Ethereum and L2s be one of the ecosystemโ€™s next major advances?
