DeepSeek’s funding round may reach $12 billion, with Tencent and CATL planning to participate
According to Bloomberg, AI company DeepSeek is close to completing a new funding round expected to total at least 80 billion yuan (about $12 billion), significantly exceeding its previous fundraising target of around 50 billion yuan. People familiar with the matter said Tencent Holdings and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) have committed to invest substantial amounts in the round, and the deal is expected to close soon. Market demand and investor interest rose significantly following the release of DeepSeek’s latest AI model, pushing the round above expectations; the final amount could even approach 100 billion yuan. DeepSeek had previously sought to raise around 50 billion yuan, but investor interest in its AI advances has driven the target higher. DeepSeek has already attracted interest from organizations including Tencent and CATL, and is using the funding to expand its computing infrastructure, AI model development, and team. Bloomberg Línea reported that DeepSeek plans to hold an initial public offering (IPO) in early 2027. The large-scale funding round will support the company’s growth ahead of its listing. DeepSeek has drawn global attention for its low-cost, high-performance AI models and is now increasing investment in next-generation AI technologies and computing resources.
