🚨 The U.S. Treasury suddenly withdraws crypto reporting rule!
Wallets and mixers finally get some “breathing room”? 🔥

The U.S. Treasury has just sent a highly significant signal to the crypto industry: a rule that would have required certain digital wallets and mixing services to report users’ transaction data has been withdrawn.
Simply put, some wallet providers and mixing tools could have been required to take on data-reporting obligations similar to those of traditional financial institutions, collecting and reporting users’ transactions.
Now, this specific proposal will no longer move forward as originally planned.
🔥 What’s the biggest change for the crypto industry?
It’s not that “the U.S. suddenly doesn’t care about crypto anymore.” Rather, self-custody wallets and privacy tools temporarily face one less layer of new compliance pressure.
Regulators have focused on wallets and mixers in the past for one key reason: these tools can let users transfer assets without going through identity checks at traditional licensed exchanges.
Mixers in particular combine multiple transactions, making the source of on-chain funds harder to trace. As a result, they have long been at the center of debates over regulation and privacy protection.
Regulators are concerned about money laundering and the transfer of illicit funds.
Privacy advocates, meanwhile, are concerned with a different question: should ordinary users also have the right to protect their financial privacy?
That’s what makes this rule so sensitive.
📌 But there’s one very important detail:
The Treasury withdrew “this proposed reporting rule.” That doesn’t mean the crypto industry no longer has to comply with regulations.
Existing anti-money laundering laws, requirements related to the Bank Secrecy Act, and enforcement and sanctions tools targeting certain mixing services are still in place.
So don’t mistake this news for “the U.S. is broadly easing crypto regulations.”
More accurately, a new layer of reporting obligations that was being considered has been scrapped.
