Wu Blockchain has learned that security firm Blockful has published an investigative report stating that “governance attacker/whale” Humpy is pressuring Compound through API3 employee Ugur Mersin. Humpy has deposited its COMP holdings as collateral into dCOMP, thereby amplifying its voting power, and has now become the largest single holder of COMP in Compound DAO. Previously, this stakeholder joined forces to block a renewal proposal for Compound’s security provider. More recently, they submitted an on-chain proposal seeking to grant governance the power to revoke transactions made by the Treasury Management Committee (TMC), enabling them to directly block the TMC’s routine fund allocation. Although Compound governance’s multisig can cancel malicious proposals, using this mechanism could further intensify divisions in governance. Blockful warned that flooding forums to exert pressure, disrupting the DAO’s normal operations, and attempting to interfere with control of the treasury closely match Humpy’s previous pattern of governance attacks on protocols such as SushiSwap and Balancer.
