U.S. regulators have finally given perpetual contracts official recognition.

The CFTC has issued no-action relief: licensed exchanges can convert existing “perpetual-like” contracts directly into genuine, expiry-free perps. The relief is effective through October 20, and they must first seek input from users with open positions.

In plain English: the legitimate players are officially moving in to compete for offshore perp business. The CFTC has made a complete U-turn, and the U.S. regulated derivatives market is about to open up. It won’t affect liquidity in the short term, but the regulatory-arbitrage window for offshore exchanges is slowly closing. A structural tailwind—if you know, you know. 🦅
