🚀 Zcash is taking off! NU7 testnet activated and blocks are 3x faster
Hey, Square community! If you follow Zcash or have Zcash (ZEC) in your wallet, check out this update because things are about to get seriously fast.
The long-awaited NU7 upgrade has just been activated on the public test network (testnet), and the first numbers are already in. And wow, the results are impressive!
📊 What happened in the tests?
⏱️ Goodbye, slow blocks: Block creation time plummeted to around 19.5 seconds (the final target is 25s). To give you an idea, it used to take 75 seconds. That’s a huge improvement!🪙 No ZEC inflation: Since the network got faster, they cut the block reward by a factor of 3. This keeps daily issuance the same and prevents the market from being flooded with more coins. Everything is under control!🔄 Funding for the project: Now, 60% of transaction fees go directly to the network’s own sustainability fund.📈 Faster syncing: The Orchard pool got a boost, and those light wallets will sync much faster.
⚠️ Important warning (Don’t get caught out!)
NU7 will permanently retire old (v4) transactions from the Sprout pool. If you have ZEC stored in a very old wallet or in this particular pool, you need to move those funds soon to avoid losing access. Stay alert!
🗓️ Mark your calendar
October 20, 2026: The developers will make the final call on moving to the main network. November 5, 2026: The expected date for NU7 to officially go live on mainnet.
