Tokenized stocks on Solana hit $4.4 billion in trading volume in September. But what did that $4.4 billion buy—actual stock, or just a ticket to the stands?

It’s like a ticket to the stands: you can get into the venue, but the seat isn’t yours. Tokenized stocks can work the same way. Many products today offer only price exposure, while dividends and voting rights stay elsewhere.

A ticket and a seat are two different things.

The “innovation exemption” the SEC opened up on September 17 calls for exactly the opposite: tokens must come with real dividend and voting rights. By that standard, the offshore synthetic products don’t qualify—and simply letting U.S. users in won’t change that. CBRS, the Cerebras stock Backpack launched on Solana, takes a different approach: it’s redeemable 1:1 for real shares.

The thing to watch isn’t trading volume, but structure: of that $4.4 billion, how much represents “real stock” and how much is just price exposure? The risks are completely different.
