U.S. stocks technicals: look at levels before direction

Don’t use last week’s rate-cut story to explain today’s market.

Start with the numbers, then talk opinions.

S&P 500 7,749 (5-day +0.85%, Yahoo)
VIX 15.61 (5-day -2.68%)
Nasdaq 27,360 (5-day +2.01%, Yahoo)

My take: VIX is at 15.61, with volatility suppressed. At these levels, U.S. stocks can grind higher, but don’t use their gains as a reason to add leverage in crypto. If the VIX bounces, leveraged positions get wiped out first.

Crypto comparison: BTC 85662 (24h +0.60%), ETH 2704 (+0.31%). ETH at +0.31% is tracking closely with BTC at +0.60%; the exchange rate is 0.03157. There’s no independent move, so don’t make a concentrated bet on altcoins.

What to watch next: On the crypto side, I’m watching just one thing: can BTC close above its 24h high of 86999? If it can’t, talk of following the rally is just hot air.

My position: staying on the sidelines. Prices haven’t picked a direction, and leverage hasn’t paid off. Opening a position now would just mean working for the exchange.
