ETH staking exit queue hits a new high for 2026! 786,000 ETH waiting to exit!

Ethereum has posted another noteworthy figure:
The ETH staking exit queue has climbed to its highest level so far in 2026!
Around 786,000 ETH are currently waiting to exit staking. At current prices, that’s worth more than $2 billion, with an estimated wait time of nearly 14 days.

At first glance, does that sound a little alarming?
A large amount of ETH exiting staking → could it trigger a sell-off?
But the situation this time isn’t quite that simple.

This wave of exits is mainly related to a recent security incident involving MetaMask.
MetaMask has begun proactively withdrawing some of its validators. Around 17,000 validators, representing more than 523,000 ETH, are involved in these exits.

So this doesn’t mean:
Investors are collectively dumping ETH in large numbers.

More accurately, it means:
Some validators temporarily exit → enter the exit queue → the funds may be staked again later.

And here’s an even more interesting figure:
Around 1.45 million ETH are still waiting to enter staking.

In other words:
Many want to exit, but even more want to stake.
This means the figure worth paying more attention to right now isn’t the “786,000 ETH exiting” figure itself.

It’s this:
After exiting, will this ETH enter the market, or return to the staking ecosystem?
If most of the exits are simply technical adjustments by MetaMask-related validators, the actual selling pressure on ETH may be much lower than the headline figure suggests.

On the other hand, if exits continue to grow while funds entering staking decline significantly, that’s when we should be cautious.

In short:
A record-high exit queue ≠ ETH is about to crash.
This looks more like a large-scale validator adjustment triggered by a specific event.
What really matters is where the ETH goes after exiting.
