ZEC AND NU7: BLOCK TIME DROPS FROM 75 TO 25 SECONDS
Zcash is testing the NU7 upgrade, reducing the target time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, with official deployment targeted for November 2026.
In my view, NU7 matters for more than speed. A shorter block time could make the network respond faster, but the bigger story is how Zcash is adjusting its operating rules and long-term funding model. The Network Sustainability Mechanism, which will direct part of transaction fees into future block rewards, could provide additional resources for network security and long-term activity. At the same time, changes to transaction rules create a clear transition requirement, especially for older Sprout assets.
As NU7 moves closer to mainnet, I will be watching two things: whether the network remains stable with the new block interval, and how users handle ZEC held in Sprout before full activation. For ZEC, this looks more like a technical transition to watch than a simple speed upgrade. Which part of NU7 matters more to you: the 25-second block time or the new sustainability mechanism?
If this logic makes sense, drop a follow for more market breakdowns.
