According to CNBC, senior leaders from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and Meta are scheduled to testify under oath Monday at a New York City Council hearing on the potential dangers of artificial intelligence. The rare Council Committee of the Whole session is expected to include all 51 members and is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET, according to the meeting agenda posted online.
The companies will be asked to explain the threats AI poses and to weigh potential legislative solutions, New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin said. Anthropic is sending Logan Graham, head of its Frontier Red Team; OpenAI will be represented by Morgan Dwyer, its head of policy development and operations; Google will send Alice Friend, director of AI and emerging tech policy; and Meta will send Shane Cahill, its AI policy director for legislation.
Menin said Anthropic, OpenAI and Google agreed to appear only after the council threatened to subpoena them. Meta had already confirmed participation late last month. The city also issued a subpoena to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk last week, requiring that he or another representative of SpaceXAI testify, and Menin said the council may seek judicial enforcement in New York State Supreme Court if SpaceXAI does not comply.
