【A hacker stole $3.8 million, then returned it all 48 hours later? 🔥】

The crypto market has seen a rare outcome this time:
The $3.8 million stolen by a hacker was returned in full, down to the last cent.
It happened at NEAR Intents.
On October 1, an attacker exploited a vulnerability between the Omni deposit and withdrawal system and the NEAR Intents smart contract, transferring approximately $3.8 million in USDT from a BNB Chain vault.
After the attack, NEAR Intents immediately suspended the affected services and promised to compensate users who were impacted.
But things soon took an unexpected turn.
The team later said:
“We’ve found you.”
They gave the hacker 48 hours to return the funds.
To everyone’s surprise, the hacker returned the entire $3.8 million.
On-chain data shows that the attacker had previously converted most of the funds into BTC, while some of the money flowed to KuCoin. In the end, all of the stolen funds were recovered.
So, why did the hacker suddenly return the money?
There’s no definitive answer at this point.
But one likely reason is that the team had identified the attacker, and most of the funds could be traced on the blockchain the whole time.
📌 Although the funds were successfully recovered in the end, the vulnerability itself is still a cause for concern. Systems involving cross-chain transactions, wallets, and smart contracts are especially vulnerable: if one part fails, it could become an entry point for an attack on the entire financial system.
