Good news: Victims of the Drift hack can finally file claims.
Bad news: For now, they can recover only about 1%.
In April this year, Drift, a derivatives protocol on Solana, was hacked. The Drift Foundation disclosed that around $295 million in funds had been stolen.
After six months, affected users can finally submit official claims.
Starting October 1, Drift will open claims for DFX compensation tokens. For every 1 USDT in confirmed losses, users can receive 1 DFX, then choose to swap it for USDT, sell it, or hold on to it for potential future compensation.
The problem is that the compensation pool currently holds only around 3.1 million USDT. One DFX can now be exchanged for only about 0.0104 USDT, meaning that for every $100 lost, users can currently recover only about $1.
Future compensation will mainly come from revenue generated by the Velocity platform, up to $127.5 million in support from Tether, and recovered assets from the hackers.
Interestingly, around $9.2 million has currently been frozen, but it must go through legal procedures before it can actually be used to compensate users.
