When Elon Musk and his brother were early on in their entrepreneurship, they were also very hot-tempered and often fought, even to the point of getting physical. Sometimes the board had no choice but to ask their mother, Ms. Maye, to step in 😅😂

In her new book, *Timeless*, Ms. Maye writes that Elon and his brother Kimbal founded Zip2. Back then, he was not yet the world’s richest man. Zip2 was the brothers’ first company. They worked for long hours every day, and they slept in the office.

Elon himself also said on CBS that he lived in that office, where he showered at the YMCA.

When the brothers held meetings, they often had disagreements, and sometimes they even got physical—right in front of the employees. Once, they even argued because of an employee who performed poorly.

Elon said that if the work is not efficient, the employee should be fired—just like that, that’s all.

Kimbal, you have to first figure out the reason, and then help him improve. You can’t just fire someone at the drop of a hat.

With no other option, the board had to ask Ms. Maye to step in.

So she held a family meeting to help them discuss compromise solutions.

Although Ms. Maye didn’t really get involved in their startup, she still felt that even though they had already grown up and even though they had achieved so much, they still always needed their mother’s help.$SPCXB
