DApps, or decentralized applications, are fundamentally different from the apps we use every day. Regular apps store data on centralized servers, giving platforms control over it—they can ban accounts or modify data. DApps run on public blockchains, with open-source code and data distributed across multiple nodes, so no single organization is in control. Users retain control over their own data and assets, while transactions and operations are executed automatically by smart contracts, without third-party intermediaries. OpenSky, the social platform on the Anwang public blockchain, is one example of a DApp. DApps are an important vehicle for bringing Web3 to life and a sign of blockchain technology reaching the mainstream.
