Grayscale identifies several potential winners in AI-linked cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrencies related to artificial intelligence (AI) far outperformed the crypto market in September. According to Grayscale, the sector rose 54% over the month, versus 24% for the entire market. Despite its still modest size, with a market capitalization of approximately $15 billion, the segment could bring to light several »big winners« over the next five years.

Grayscale’s AI segment gained 54% in September, more than double the 24% of the global crypto market.

NEAR (+183%), Venice (+70%), World (+47%), and Bittensor (+37%) led the move.

With approximately $15 billion, the sector remains the smallest of the six tracked by Grayscale.

AI is drawing increasing attention from the crypto market

The convergence between artificial intelligence and blockchain takes on a new dimension. In a note published on October 2, Zach Pandl, Grayscale’s research lead, highlights the potential of AI agents—those programs capable of executing tasks and performing transactions autonomously.

According to him, public blockchains could play an important role in developing this economy. They offer, in particular, open infrastructure for automatic payments, identity management for computation, private computing, and data verification.

Grayscale thus estimates that the sector could bring to light one or more big winners in five years.

» We believe the AI sector could produce one or more big winners over the next five years,« writes Pandl.

This outlook is attracting investors’ attention especially because AI still represents only a small portion of the crypto market. With approximately $15 billion in capitalization, it remains the smallest of the six categories defined by the asset manager.
