Understand Acurast ($ACU) in 30 seconds

🧠 What is it for?

Acurast aims to do one straightforward thing: turn the world’s idle smartphones into a decentralized computing power network.

Developers can delegate tasks like AI inference and data processing to the network, which is jointly executed by a large number of phones. Each phone’s security chip (TEE) protects the data and the computation process. In return, phone users who contribute computing power can earn $ACU rewards.

💰 Funding

Total funding of about $16.4 million.

Of this, $11 million funding was completed in November 2025. Investors include Polkadot founder Gavin Wood, Web3 Foundation, Tezos Foundation, CoinList, and others.

👥 Team

A Swiss team, with core members from the development studio Papers, who previously worked on the AirGap wallet.

The team also has a track record in security and mobile-end technology from financial institutions such as Credit Suisse and Swiss Re, and has been involved in the crypto industry continuously since 2015.

🔭 Where’s the opportunity?

Demand for AI computing power is growing rapidly, but GPUs are expensive and highly centralized.

Acurast has chosen a different path:

Instead of piling on more GPUs, it directly leverages the billions of existing smartphones worldwide.

🔥 Where are things at right now?

Acurast is no longer just a concept:

• 280,000+ phones connected
• Coverage in 175+ countries
• Cumulatively processed over 918 million on-chain transactions
• Able to run open-source AI models and achieve sub-second inference

In simple terms:

Acurast wants to turn idle phones around the world into a decentralized cloud that can be called on anytime.
