$TSLA just claimed a new name on the social platform X.

On October 4, Musk posted two messages back-to-back: “SpaceX is a super-intelligent company.” “No longer called AI—call it SI, it’s better this way.” A netizen, @XFreeze, asked in the replies whether they could change it directly to SpaceXSI, and he replied: “Yes, we will make this change.”

Let’s rewind the record behind this sign. Earlier this February, SpaceX acquired xAI in an all-stock deal; on July 6, the company formally rebranded as SpaceXAI. Less than a year later, the same sign has to be changed a third time.

The trigger came on September 29. A U.S. executive order requires federal agencies, in official documents, to replace “artificial intelligence” (AI) with “super intelligent” (SI), while private brands are not required to comply. At that day’s White House briefing, Musk said “AI” out loud, then quickly corrected himself to “SI” and apologized. The same person corrected the same wording habit in two different settings within five days.

Naming is the cheapest form of political signaling: no money spent, no product changes—just finish the rebrand and conveniently align the external messaging at the same time. As for when the renaming will actually take effect, the official website and official accounts currently show no signs of change.
