Is ETC going sideways and you already want to buy? First, pass the 8.865 level

ETC has been grinding for a while, and the easiest line for people to imagine is: is it about to play catch-up and “fill the gap” upward? 😏 I’m also watching for this kind of quiet consolidation, but ranging sideways alone doesn’t prove accumulation. What it looks like now is a weak repair—if you want it to become a breakout worth following, you still need the volume/energy.

Beijing 21:01: ETCUSDT perpetual is quoted at 8.839 USDT. In the past 24 hours it’s up only 0.25%. Hourly trading volume as of 21:00 is just 0.83x the average volume of the previous 20 hours. From 17:00–20:00, open interest only increased by 0.42%. Price has a slight uptick, but participation hasn’t expanded noticeably yet.

Momentum is improving a bit: the hourly RSI has returned to 50.3. The MACD positive histogram bars have grown longer, but the DIF is still below the zero line—so treat this as a repair for now. Bollinger Band width is about 0.57%, meaning the closing prices are tightly clustered, but it can’t tell us the direction of the next breakout. Don’t directly equate “low volatility” with “the next candle will go up.”

For the next 1–4 hours, I’ll initially play the short-term range tug-of-war. 8.865 is the high of the previous 20 hourly K candles: only if hourly closes move above it and成交 exceeds 1.2x the volume average of the previous 20 hours, then even if there’s a pullback afterward, as long as it can hold, I’ll raise my tentative call to 8.900. That would be the 24-hour high—after it’s touched, we still need to reassess the follow-through.

⚠️ Also, do the “room for error” math: from 8.839 to 8.900 is only about 0.69%, and that’s before fees and slippage. Chasing in may not be worth it. If it breaks out and then closes back below 8.865, first cancel the breakout assumption. If a 15-minute close loses the recent range low of 8.803, then switch to watching the 24-hour low of 8.770. All of the above are ETC perpetual USDT levels; once the time window passes, they’ll be recalculated.

💬 Would you rather set a position in advance, or wait for a volume-backed closing confirmation? Which signal would make you change your mind?
