It took me a long time to fully understand the concept of stop-loss.
It isn’t meant to predict the market.
When you hit the stop-loss button, you’re essentially saying: I might be wrong.
The hardest part for beginners is this—treating stop-loss as a failure. It feels like getting stopped out means you’re stupid.
But it’s a cost. Just like the trading fees you pay when you enter the market—it’s the ticket price for staying in.
My current habit is: before entering, I decide in advance the maximum I’m willing to lose. If I can’t figure it out, I don’t enter.
Once it’s clear, getting stopped out won’t trigger emotions, because it was already part of the plan.
What truly drains you of all your temper and makes you lose money isn’t the stop-loss—it’s reluctance to give up.
Not investment advice.
