📰 Ethereum validator exits queue suddenly surged by about 392%, with a peak near 850,000 ETH, and an estimated wait time of 14.77 days—marking the longest exit queue this year. This massive line-up wasn’t caused by ordinary stakers collectively “running away,” but by a security incident involving MetaMask Staking.
🔥 On September 30, MetaMask Staking disclosed that part of its infrastructure had been compromised: around 0.36 ETH and block production rewards across 18 blocks were briefly transferred. The official said users’ wallets and sensitive data were not affected, but the company still proactively arranged for nearly 17,000 validators to exit, totaling about 523,000 ETH.
To be honest, 523,000 ETH makes up the bulk of the entire exit queue, and a significant portion is related to Lido operations. A single infrastructure incident pushing such a large amount of staked assets into the exit process would certainly make ETH and LSD holders a bit nervous.

💡 However, queued exits don’t necessarily mean an immediate sell-off. The nearly 14.77-day waiting period would stretch out potential selling pressure, and currently there are still about 43.6 million ETH staked across roughly 878,000 validators network-wide, with the peak exit volume close to about 2% of the total staked amount.
👀 MetaMask expects the related exits to be completed by before October 7. If no new large-scale exits follow afterward, the queue could shorten noticeably. Do you think this was just a temporary withdrawal after a security incident, or will it cause more people to reconsider handing their ETH over to major staking service providers?
