Techub News: A U.S. Department of the Treasury announcement says the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned three individuals and two charitable organizations, accusing them of transferring more than $2 million to Hamas through cryptocurrency and fake charitable channels. The sanctioned individuals include Saleem al-Zaq, a member of Hamas’s military wing, as well as two French fundraisers, Faouzi Barika and Amel Oualid. The two charitable organizations are Association Baraka and Ensemble C Mieux. The U.S. Department of Justice has also brought charges against al-Zaq and announced the arrest of six people. The Treasury said that after Barika and Oualid raised funds under the pretext of charity, they transferred tens of thousands of dollars in digital assets to al-Zaq, who then passed them to Hamas. The Treasury did not disclose the specific amount transferred via cryptocurrency. Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has identified counterparty and exchange addresses related to the network.
