Arbitrum suspends activation of new Stylus: Preventing risks of AI-driven attacks
• Emergency suspension of new activation: The Arbitrum Security Council has blocked the activation of new Stylus contracts (WebAssembly/WASM) on Arbitrum One and Nova starting from 02/10 to prevent cybersecurity risks.
• Scoped isolation, safe mainnet: All traditional Solidity contracts and running Stylus dApps remain unaffected; some withdrawals to Ethereum may be temporarily delayed in the short term as an automatic defensive measure.
• Threat from AI-generated malicious code: The risk comes from sophisticated, customized WASM programs that could be generated by AI outside the standard Stylus toolkit to cause service disruption (no threats to user asset loss have been recorded yet).
If AI keeps developing like this, the risk of being hacked will only keep increasing. Maybe next season, we should get used to it—there will be one hack case every month, and I hope our kids’ holdings won’t get hacked 😂
