The next major Ethereum upgrade, Glamsterdam, will begin with the Sepolia testnet first on the day after tomorrow (10/6) at UTC 13:53:36, which is 9:53 PM Beijing time.
This time mainly addresses three things (CCN, CryptoTicker, etc.):
· EIP-7732 (ePBS): “Separation of block proposer and block builder” is written into the protocol—block builders first commit to the block contents, giving validators more time to verify
· EIP-7928 (block-level access lists): accounts and storage slots that each transaction will touch are identified in advance, enabling transactions to execute in parallel
· EIP-8037: gas costs for permanently stored data are repriced
The goal is to push the gas limit per block to at least 200 million, with execution capacity significantly increased.
Make sure to distinguish a few key dates:
· Sepolia: 10/6, already set
· Hoodi testnet: no date yet
· Mainnet: only “Q4” has been mentioned, without a specific date. Any “mainnet on some day in some month” you see online is not officially confirmed
Developers should note: the storage repricing will change gas costs. Contracts, wallets, and gas estimators that rely on current gas assumptions all need to be updated accordingly.
Also, Vitalik has said that after Glamsterdam comes Hegotá, which may be the “last comparatively conventional fork” for Ethereum—after that, it will likely move even more toward zero-knowledge proofs.
$ETH is currently around 2,690. If the testnet goes smoothly, do you think the market will bring forward the mainnet upgrade?
