Well, this guy has got some serious nerve—his courage is huge.

A technology company executive in California was arrested for allegedly smuggling into China $300 million worth of Nvidia AI servers.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on October 1 that 38-year-old Greg Lui was arrested.

The man is the owner of Earthmade Computer in California. Prosecutors allege that he transshipped the more than $300 million worth of export-controlled servers to China via places such as Malaysia and Singapore.

One detail in the case is especially specific: in January 2024, Lui was accused of ordering 27 servers for about $7.61 million, which were then shipped from Los Angeles to Kuala Lumpur. Prosecutors said the shipment included Nvidia H100s, which were later forwarded to Chinese buyers.

The alleged money trail was also included in the charging documents. From January to October 2024, Earthmade allegedly received more than $176 million from two Malaysian companies.

U.S. prosecutors believe that relevant documents deliberately listed the end users and destinations as jurisdictions that did not require export licenses, in order to get around restrictions on China.

Lui currently faces three charges: conspiracy to violate export controls, smuggling, and money laundering.
