Transport operators consider it necessary to have an automated charging system to adjust the fare daily
Fernando Mora, executive director of the Venezuelan Chamber of Transport Companies, noted that the sector has proposed providing a transportation bonus for both public and private sector workers, as well as for students, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.
The executive director of the Venezuelan Chamber of Transport Companies, Fernando Mora, said it is necessary to have an automated charging system so that the bus fare can be adjusted daily.
«If we had an automated charging system, we would function like the rest of the country’s economy: it would be adjusted daily, not once a month. People would tap the card and pay because the fare is a single one—25 cents of a dollar,» he added.
He also commented that it would be the same as the costs of goods and services, which are all dollarized, and emphasized that the systems are automated and «they make their adjustment daily».
Fernando Mora said that the fare cost of US$0.25 is a social fare, since the real price in Venezuela, according to operating costs for maintaining the vehicles, ranges between US$0.70 and US$1.
He stated that the sector has proposed granting a transportation bonus to both the public and private sectors, as well as to students, people with disabilities, and senior citizens, in order to improve transportation services.
Likewise, he asserted on Unión Radio that there are units that are more than 20 and 30 years old and continue operating: «What is correct is to have a platform where you buy the transport card, top it up, and use it. That would be ideal».
