BTC’s price action today—honestly, it’s not easy to trade.
From 84,523 to 85,038, the intraday range of 515 points is even narrower than the day before. In the four-hour closes, there have been four consecutive candles ranging back and forth between 84,754 and 84,871. The price is trapped here and can’t break out. This isn’t consolidation in strength—it’s a lack of power: both longs and shorts lack confidence.
What I care about most is the change in OI. Over the past 8 hours, open interest climbed from 97,100 BTC to 97,928 BTC, reaching a new high. But the price hasn’t moved at all. If positions increased but price didn’t change, it means these new longs don’t have momentum—or, put another way, someone may be accumulating at low cost while waiting for the trigger point, but the direction hasn’t been chosen yet.
Funding rate is -0.00001—basically zero. Shorts aren’t making money. This tells me the market isn’t in a “true” bearish mode; longs also aren’t confident enough to push hard.
The active buy/sell flow is a bit interesting. Last night, during one hour, an aggressive sell order printed 1,957 BTC—1.6 times the buy orders—nudging the price down. But around 84,522 it was held, with no breakdown. In the rebound early this morning, the buy-side ratio rose back to 1.27, suggesting someone is defending this level. Defending what? I believe it’s the support structure around 84,500. If this breaks, then the next gravity zone is the FVG resonance area below—between 83,100 and 83,442.
Right now I’m watching two scenarios:
1) Price holds at 84,500, and after OI digests, we wait for the U.S. stock session to open—then look for a directional breakout before following.
2) If 85,050 can’t be reclaimed, and aggressive sell volume ramps up again, then a direct pullback into the 83,400 zone to hunt stops.
Weekend volume naturally shrinks, so trying to hard-guess direction in this kind of market usually loses money. Let the structure speak.
