Scanned the Bitbank official website: Japanese-licensed exchange bitbank has completed its share buyback from MIXI and Ceres and officially became a wholly owned subsidiary of SBI Holdings on October 1.
The new management team is in place as well: Tomohiko Kondo, President of SBI VC Trade, has joined bitbank’s board of directors. Hiroyuki Hironobu, CEO of bitbank, will also serve as an outside director of SBI VC Trade—cross-appointments at the two exchanges under SBI.
The company says its services will not be affected, and customers can continue to use them as usual. Japan’s licensing requirements are strict and compliance-focused, and the integration of major financial groups bringing exchanges into their systems is ongoing.
