Techub News: Message. The American Community Bankers Association (ICBA) has sued the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), opposing its rules that allow crypto companies such as Circle, Ripple, BitGo, and Paxos to obtain national trust bank charters. The ICBA argues that Congress never intended for national trust charters to become a «back door» for crypto companies to gain the credibility of federal bank charters while also avoiding requirements such as deposit insurance. The lawsuit asks the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to declare that the OCC’s final rule and related interpretive letter N1176 are unlawful. In the months prior, companies including Circle and Ripple had already received the OCC’s final approvals to form national trust banks. (CryptoPotato)
